Key Supporting Muscles
The tibialis anterior1 and tibialis posterior2 muscles control ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion. The Ankle Short Leg Brace enhances stability of these critical muscles.
Peroneus longus & brevis3 muscles regulate eversion and plantarflexion and are most vulnerable during lateral ligament injuries. The brace effectively reduces stress on these muscles.
Gastrocnemius4 and soleus5 provide primary ankle plantarflexion power. The short leg brace maintains their functional positioning.

Nerve Protection & Precautions
The superficial peroneal nerve6 supplies sensation to the dorsum of the foot and is at high risk of compression at the lateral ankle. Monitor for tingling during application.
The tibial nerve7 innervates the plantar foot surface. Proper medial padding adjustment prevents compression.
Application Precautions
The Ankle Short Leg Brace is applied in neutral ankle position (90°) to protect the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL)8 and calcaneofibular ligament (CFL)9.
Maintain proper alignment of the talus10 and tibia while limiting excessive dorsiflexion and eversion. This is critical for recovery.
For long-term use, incorporate periodic active range of motion exercises to prevent muscle atrophy. Breathable padding and adjustable straps prevent circulatory issues.
